Maths – Capacity

We are measuring capacity this week….

We are estimating first, before accurately measuring. We have talked about scraping or levelling off our containers to make sure that they all hold exactly the same amount. Then they doubled checked their answers.

We measured and discovered 4 medicine cups filled the yogurt pot and 13 yogurt pots filled the ice cream container. However if we pushed the sand down a bit, 14 yogurt pots filled the ice cream container.

It was great to see team work happening, with each group taking turns to scoop, pour, level and count whilst measuring.

A busy and exciting couple of weeks

Dear Parents and Caregivers

What a big book week! The children were so excited. On Thursday we were very fortunate to see the Treasure Hunt performance where some children were selected to also be part of the play.

The book week parade was also an exciting event. We are so lucky to have a supportive school to hold events like this. Thank you parents for accommodating your children’s costume dreams!

A huge thank you must go to Simone, our librarian and her staff who helped put the jam packed week together. I know all the children really appreciated the many events held to support this annual event.

In maths we are continuing to look at number, addition and subtraction. On Friday the children were given 5 seconds to write the biggest numeral they could think of.  Here is what the came up with. We are beginning to look at place value and how this relates to addition and subtraction.

On Friday we also did some book week activities with our buddies. It is always great to spend time with them.

I hope you had an enjoyable and restful weekend.

Kind regards

Mrs Simmons

Book Week, Week 5

Good evening Parents & Caregivers

Just to clear up some confusion, Book Week will be commencing next week.

We will be launching book week at the whole school assembly tomorrow but this is not the day for dress-ups. The parade will be next Friday where the children can come to school dressed as a character from a book. The theme is ‘Find your Treasure’, however this does not mean your child needs to dress up as a pirate!  Any book character will do!

I have also attached a poster which outlines the different events happening next week. We are looking forward to it!

Kind regards

Mrs Simmons
